Drees & Sommer UK completes handover of the 12-month refurbishment of Newtown Primary School in Birmingham

We have completed the handover on the refurbishment of Newtown Primary School in Birmingham. The school’s building condition before refurbishment was extremely poor. Our schools and academies specialists worked with Stour Vale Academy Trust as well as the Department of Education in order to secure funding through the Strategic School Improvement Capital Budget. Once secured the journey towards a better learning and teaching environment started in Spring 2020, with works starting on site March 2021 .
As a part of this refurbishment, the entire schools tired external windows and door were replaced, a complete electrical re-wire of the entire school, alongside replacement of dated oil fired boilers, whilst classroom spaces were substantially improved, with re-lining of internal exposed brickwork walls, new carpeting, decoration and LED lighting provided throughout the school. In addition staff room areas were refurbished, to provided a dedicated resource area for staff and a calming, modern, bright staff room for all of the staff to enjoy.
The team provided building surveying, cost management as well as principal designer services on this project.
