Drees & Sommer UK Helps Selective Schools Fund Extra Places for Disadvantaged Children

Sixteen grammar schools in England are receiving a share of the Department for Education's selective school expansion fund to accommodate up to 4,000 extra pupils.

We achieved a 75% success rate for the selective schools we worked with and have secured £6.5m of the £49.3 million funding released for the schools, making up 13% of the total fund.

Asif Khamisa, Associate Director commented, “We are delighted that we could help selective schools fund more places for disadvantaged children. Our expertise in securing Department of Education funding ensured that they were in safe hands and we hope to continue to support them throughout the expansion process.”

The government says all 16 selective schools will be making changes to their admission arrangements to increase access for disadvantaged children.

Most of them have committed to lowering the mark required to pass the entrance test for pupils who qualify for the pupil premium.

Others will help pupil premium children, or children attending schools in less affluent areas, prepare for their entrance tests.

The schools we secured the funding for include:

• Altrincham Grammar School for Boys (see 3D image above that shows proposed expansion scheme)
• Queen Mary Grammar School
• Queen Mary High School
