Drees & Sommer UK supports NHS Property Services to deliver site rationalisation and disposal scheme

Edgware Community Hospital is located in the London Borough of Barnet and is owned and operated by NHS Property Services. The total site comprises approximately 30,000 sq. m. across the main community hospital and ten other surrounding buildings, which are principally occupied by NHS Trusts.

Whilst the site covers a significant land area, usage is inefficient in terms of both utilisation and layout. NHS Property Services were therefore keen to rationalise the existing estate and release surplus land for both sale and redevelopment and to reinvest potential capital receipts back into the local NHS.

We worked closely with the client’s team and the team of consultants to provide Programme Management Office, Project Management and Project Support Function services, and a Drees & Sommer UK Director was appointed to act in the main role of Programme Director for the project on behalf of NHS Property Services.

Our key objectives were to ensure that the scheme was delivered on-time, to budget and in-line with the expectations of NHS Property Services.

The Strategic Management team here at Drees & Sommer UK has overseen and co-ordinated the appointment of a suitable Design Team including architects, planning consultants and cost consultants. We were also responsible for overseeing the master planning on the site and ensuring that the requirements of NHS PS and the limitations on the site were captured by the appointed design team.

In addition, our project team oversaw the engagement with the local authority and local NHS organisations and supported NHS PS to ensure the development was successful in obtaining planning permission.
