We've delivered an award-winning shopping and leisure development!
Projects
Rochdale Riverside, a brand-new shopping and leisure development, has been awarded Commercial Development of the Year at the Insider North West Property Awards.
The town centre has been a long-term project for us, having first been appointed in 2008 where we acted as project and cost managers on the town masterplan, and as project managers on the Rochdale One offices. Since then, we have provided a number of strategic roles to both the Council and developers. On this latest phase of the retail offer, our team provided Principal Designer services, working closely with the design team and Principal Contractor.
The development includes 200,000 square foot of retail, leisure accommodation and a 520-space car park right in the town centre. Other features are a six-screen cinema, which sits above the retail units.
The Riverside scheme was created as part of the wider £400m regeneration of Rochdale town centre, which has been delivered by Rochdale Development Agency (RDA), on behalf of the council.
Delivered by a partnership between Rochdale Borough Council, Genr8 Developments and Kajima, Rochdale Riverside was praised for its scale, complexity, and impact, while the developers were commended for their ‘tenacity and will’ to make it happen.
Other developments in this category included Brooklyn Hotel, and 2 Stockport Exchange – a state-of-the-art office development.
John Nicholson, our Divisional Director of Health and Safety said: “This scheme was an important one for the Rochdale community and demonstrates the council’s commitment to improving and regenerating the town centre.
“With the high-street in decline, developments that bring retail giants and local businesses together are crucial to encourage footfall into the heart of our communities.“Our expert team provided quality advisory services to the client, working closely with their internal teams to understand the brief, the budget and the timeline requirements. We’re glad to see that Riverside has garnered the recognition it deserves.”
